Remembering ULI Life Trustee Wayne Ratkovich
By Jack Morrissey | Urban Land Magazine
Over the weekend we lost one of the giants in our Community. Real Estate Developer, Philanthropist, Civic Leader, Mentor and Friend; Wayne Ratkovich passed away on Sunday. Wayne embodied what it meant to be a leader. He was an active part of ULI Los Angeles and was a mentor and friend to so many of our community over the years.
“Wayne was a true visionary in urban development, city building, and place making and exemplified everything that a real estate developer should be,” said Clare DeBriere, Past Chair of ULI LA and the current Americas Chair and member of the Global Board of Directors at ULI. “His focus on creating places for people that were thoughtful, beautiful, wondrous, peaceful, and playful made everyday life better for everyone who experienced them.”
The indelible mark Wayne left on the city he called home was due not only to the success of his real estate endeavors, but also his steadfast commitment to community engagement at every step. Wayne believed strongly in the powerful role placemaking and city building play in elevating the quality of life for urban residents – and the importance of responsible land use to improve communities for generations to come. He was also passionate about sharing his wisdom with others, serving as a mentor to many in the industry throughout his career.
He will be missed.
