Building Healthy Places (BHP) Committee

The Building Healthy Places (BHP) Initiative leverages the power of ULI’s global networks to shape projects and places in ways that improve the health of people and communities. BHP Los Angeles creates and implements a comprehensive program of work that emphasizes the connections between health and built environment, serving the local communities of Los Angeles, and surrounding Counties, including Ventura, Kern, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Barbara.

Building Healthy Places Committee Goals

  • Advance understanding of the interconnectivity between health, equity and the built environment, and
  • Shape policies, projects and places to improve the health of the people and communities – physically, emotionally, and economically.
  • Promote a collaborative, systems perspective into decision-making in health-related programming, urban planning, design and real estate development 

Building Healthy Places Committee Objectives

  • Create public tools and resources to promote healthy environments
  • Develop easily replicable processes through Convenings and TAPs
  • Implement BHP strategies through recommendations to local governments
  • Evaluate results through lessons learned and case studies
  • Provide direct training to other stakeholders in their communities
  • Leverage and develop the knowledge and skillsets of ULI members so that the methods for building healthy places are incorporated into cross-sectoral and disciplinary professions.
  • Expand our role as thought leaders at the local, regional and national levels
