Meet and Greet Relativity Architects (RA) on Tuesday, December 12th in the Arts District of Downtown LA! ULI-LA is pleased to invite industry professionals to RA’s office for an evening featuring an innovative and diverse firm that recently celebrated its 10th anniversary. The evening will give attendees a glimpse into RA’s studio, a special insight into the firm’s recent hospitality, production studio and mixed-use projects, and an opportunity to mix and mingle over food and drink with fellow members and guests. RA will share its unique approach of collaborative client partnerships, designed to create dynamic projects through a process of efficiency, multi-layered development, shared goals, and early communication.

    Speakers

    Tima Bell

    Founding Principal, Relativity Architects

Raised in Venice Beach in a show-business family, Tima Bell, Assoc. AIA, studied fine arts at Rice University. After earning a B.A. there, he studied throughout Europe, completed a one-year artist-in-residency in Israel, and also played professional basketball in China. Tima’s passion for art led him to the practice of architecture as a launching point to explore the three-dimensional space within his own paintings. He met future Relativity Architects business partner Scott Sullivan, AIA, in the M.Arch program at SCI-Arc. For more than 20 years, Tima has pursued the exploration of art and the built environment through his own practice of architecture and design. From straw-bale construction to various high-end hospitality projects and from motion picture studios to master plans, he is vigilant throughout the process to achieve balance between quality, style, and efficiency. Tima’s honors include two AIA Hospitality Design awards, an Individual Boutique 18 Design Award, and a Boutique 18 Design Restaurant Award. He is a former adjunct professor at Woodbury University and acts as a guest juror at several Los Angeles universities and international competitions.

    Ginna Nguyen

Associate Principal & Studio Director, Relativity Architects

Ginna Claire Nguyen has a diverse portfolio of experiences from her work with a variety of organizations, including architecture firms, publications, and restaurant and real estate management companies. Prior to joining RA, she built two award-winning pavilions at international exhibits in Japan and New York. She also served as an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at Pasadena City College. During this time, Ginna established a highly-collaborative practice which explored new typologies of living, from urban master plans to rural single-family homes. Rounding out her diverse practices, Ginna is a board member of two non-profit organizations based in Southern California.  Ginna joined Relativity Architects in 2014 as the Director of Design, overseeing projects that range from hospitality to housing. Her role in the studio encompasses design, project and studio management, development, and administration.  Ginna was named one of the 40 Under 40 by Building Design + Construction and was a finalist for women’s leadership and inspiration awards by the LA Times and the LA Business Journal. She earned a B.A in   Studio Arts from Pepperdine University and an M.Arch from the University of Pennsylvania.

    Alex Alvarez

Project Architect & BIM Manager, Relativity Architects

Alex joined Relativity Architects in 2020 and quickly became a valued leader within the studio. As a Project Architect, he has managed and supported several major projects, including affordable-housing apartment complexes for low-income senior citizens and production studios for film and streaming, as well as commercial spaces. As BIM Manager, he also leads the firm’s digital-design efforts and drawing standards.  Alvarez’s passion for design and construction blossomed at a young age, inspired by an architect in the family. He takes inspiration from travel, noting how different locales approach design challenges. Alvarez’s strengths include his attention to detail and the ability to translate complex elements into architectural spaces. He also enjoys inspiring the next generation, having served as a mentor for high-school students. Alvarez holds a B.Arch degree from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo.
