Regional Spotlight: The 134/210 Corridor: Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena
Last month Warner Brothers announced a billion dollar land swap and redevelopment project to reposition itself for its second century. The 800,000 square foot, Frank Gehry towers that will anchor the project are emblems of the booming “content” economy at the heart of Southern California’s continually evolving leadership of the global entertainment industry. The Cities of Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena are the communities at the core of this vital part of our economy.
ULI is pleased to present Burbank Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy and Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian, as well as Andre Sahakian, Special Projects Policy Planner for Pasadena, in a Regional Spotlight Program moderated by City of Los Angeles Chief Design Officer Christopher Hawthorne. These Mayors and municipal leaders will be able to speak not only to the opportunities generated by the thriving economy, but also to the challenges their cities face, especially related to the region’s affordability crisis and the pressures local governments are now feeling from Sacramento.
Mayor Luddy is not just a Mayor, she has been a professional City planner for most of her life. Mayor Najarian, serving his fourth term as Mayor, returns to the ULI program series, having shared his insights with us during his prior term as Mayor. Both Mayors are deeply familiar with their communities, and both are graduates of Occidental. Christopher Hawthorne is certain to lead a dynamic conversation about balancing the desire of these places to preserve what they have while continuing to embrace their future.
For this Regional Spotlight Program, ULI returns to the very cool downtown offices of Jerde, in the old Southern Cal Edison building.
