Case Study & Site Tour: High-Tech and High-Design – The Evolution of Silicon Beach at Playa Vista
Playa Vista, the connected urban community on the Westside of Los Angeles, continues its dramatic evolution as the largest, most impactful masterplan in Los Angeles. Community developer Brookfield Residential recently unveiled four new neighborhoods, including 85 luxury detached homes and 81 flats in modern styles. These residences are among some of the last new homes ever coming to this beach-close community. Lincoln Property Co. recently sold Runway, the Johnson-Fain designed mixed-use development within Playa Vista, to Invesco Real Estate. New Runway openings include Whole Foods market, Cinemark Theaters and 220 luxury Runway apartments.
Creative office at The Campus at Playa Vista continues to boom, making it the hub of Silicon Beach. Among the latest developments, Michael Maltzan Architecture is designing The 425,000 square-foot Brickyard by Tishman Speyer, and Yahoo recently moved to The Collective, a 204,000-square-foot campus, also by Tishman Speyer. Google will soon unveil exciting plans for property adjacent to the Hercules Campus by Ratkovich Company. Imax has moved in to its new state-of-the-art corporate headquarters with high-tech screening rooms. And Brookfield Residential continues to connect the entire community with a comprehensive park and transportation network, including the Daily Shuttle.
ULI Los Angeles’ 2014 Playa Vista Case Study was one of its most popular. For this stimulating event, representatives of some of Playa Vista’s most interesting spaces and places will reveal designs and developments energizing the Los Angeles residential, retail and commercial markets.

How to Get to the Case Study:
Although Runway and Playa Vista are themselves a self-contained community where people can live, work and play, Metro Rail does not serve the Playa Vista area. Several bus lines access the area. Go to http://socaltransport.org/tm_pub_start.php to plan your transit trip.
Playa Vista is mainly on the south side of Jefferson Boulevard, just west of the 90 and just east of Lincoln (and sitting below the Loyola Marymount Campus).
