YLG Fall Meeting Tour: From Airplanes to Search Engines – How Playa Vista became Silicon Beach – SOLD OUT!
A typical project timeline assumes one month here, six months there, probably twenty months somewhere along the way. What happens when reality becomes more than thirty years?
While he built the world’s largest aircraft, Howard Hughes walked the same ground as now lies beneath Playa Vista. Here, Hollywood moguls, Wall Street mega-investors, and blue-chip developers galore have clamored to follow in his footsteps to create something unparalleled. Through four master developers, multiple recessions, and a lot of public meetings, one final forward-looking master plan has transformed over 1,000 acres into Los Angeles’ newest zip code, and the Silicon Beach home of Google, Yahoo, Facebook, IMAX, and YouTube, among others.
Come see the cutting edge of creative office space, the legacy of adaptively-reused Hughes Aircraft Company buildings, and the most convenient bike-to-work-to-retail-to-home neighborhood built from scratch.
The tour will conclude with an optional happy hour by the beach in Santa Monica at 6pm (cost for happy hour not included in ticket price).
- Tour departs from the Los Angeles Convention Center. There will be a check-in table and sign indicating the meeting location for your tour group. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to departure.
- Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
