Meet & Greet with Mitch O’Farrell, Councilmember, City of Los Angeles 13th District
What’s happening in the 13th District of Los Angeles? Join ULI Los Angeles and Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell to find out! A leader in the LA River Restoration Project and champion of CD13 Urban Design Guidelines, O’Farrell was elected to represent Los Angeles’ 13th Council District in May of 2013. Prior to that, he served as a Field Deputy, District Director, and as Senior Advisor to Council President Eric Garcetti from 2002-2012.
Council President Herb Wesson assigned Mitch as Chair of the Arts, Parks, Health, Aging and Los Angeles River committee; Vice-Chair of Personnel and Animal Welfare committee; and a committee member of Innovation, Technology and General Services committee, Public Safety committee, and a member of Education and Neighborhoods.
Active in the community of Glassell Park since 1992, O’Farrell served as President of the Glassell Park Improvement Association, the local Democratic Club, and he co-founded the Glassell Park Neighborhood Council in 2001. Mitch’s accomplishments while on the staff of Councilmember Eric Garcetti include restoration of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Echo Park Lake renovation and boathouse restoration, the Glassell Park Community and Senior Center, and improvements at the Los Angeles River, including new parks and miles of walking and biking paths. He worked on community gardens, farmers markets, increasing public safety, helping small businesses, and general quality of life improvements across the district.
