Dear Members and Friends of ULI Los Angeles,
As we shared in our last update, ULI Los Angeles has been working diligently with our member leaders, public agencies, and civic partners to support the fire recovery effort. Today, we are pleased to share with you the product of our collaborative efforts over the past eight weeks.
Within days of the fires, our Governance Committee convened to formulate a response plan, harnessing the expertise of our extensive network of multidisciplinary professionals. Our purpose is to serve as a dependable resource, providing vital information and technical assistance to our public sector leaders and the impacted communities throughout the recovery process.
One week later, ULI Los Angeles teamed up with two preeminent academic institutions – UCLA Ziman Center and USC Lusk Center – and formed the Rebuild Advisory Committee. The committee brought together approximately 100 prominent experts in land use, urban planning, and economic development who collaborated across dedicated teams, over countless hours, to identify obstacles to recovery and devise strategic solutions.
We are proud to present Project Recovery, a comprehensive report that provides in-depth technical analysis, proven best practices, and actionable recommendations to accelerate recovery and build long-term resilience in our communities.
In the past two weeks, we had the opportunity to preview the report with elected leaders in our City and County governments. We commend our public officials for their tireless efforts in these extraordinary times. We applaud them for having already implemented some of the proposed ideas and stand ready to support them to further develop and implement additional recommendations from the report.
We are deeply grateful to all the participants for their remarkable contribution and dedication, all of whom are acknowledged in the report. In addition, we want to especially recognize the extraordinary leadership of Lew Horne, Clare De Briere, Stuart Gabriel, and Richard Green who were instrumental in launching this collaboration and devoted immeasurable efforts to bring it to fruition. Finally, we want to thank the ULI Headquarters team and the ULI Foundation for their invaluable partnership and generous support.
This initiative exemplifies ULI at its finest: committed professionals united in their concern for the future of our communities, working together to address complex challenges and create a lasting impact. As ULI members, we can all be very proud.
The full report is available on ULI’s Knowledge Finder and will be publicly released this week. Designed as a living document, it will be regularly updated to reflect new developments and share fresh insights.
Best Regards,
Ryan Kellie
