EPIC is a new model of creative office located in the heart of Hollywood that is streaming giant Netflix’s newest campus. Architecturally, the project seeks to reshape the urban office building archetype. Rather than focusing on vertical stature, the design team created an inter-connected terraced mass driven by a new paradigm of the indoor-outdoor creative workplace on all floors. EPIC forms part of the revitalization of Sunset Boulevard, providing an innovative workspace that ushers the creative cultural identity of Hollywood into the 21st century.

Inspired by the terraced homes that dot the hills, EPIC’s own topography reflects the formal and domestic attributes of trellises, decks, and interconnecting stairways, creating a serene and productive setting that makes the most out of the local climate. Philosophically driven from the inside and out, the architecture marries the best attributes of modern-era industrial structures with large, repetitive concrete bays that are tall and wide with a sustainability-driven, high-performance façade of concrete and glass. The rigorous, pleated concrete grid is a foil to the terraces and balcony cut-outs around the building and also serves as a framework for the building’s BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic system) curtain wall. With a LEED Gold Certification, EPIC is the first project in the city of Los Angeles to implement a building façade integrated with solar photovoltaic technology to offset electricity consumption.
