As a leader in sustainability and climate resiliency, California has set Net Zero regulations that will change the landscape of commercial real estate. The state’s Net Zero Energy (“NZE”) and Carbon (“NZC”) regulations, which are set to take effect in 2030 and 2045, respectively, have commercial developers grappling with how to meet these ever-changing requirements. A handful of cities, inclusive of LA and Santa Monica, are pushing the envelope to achieve net zero, for both new and existing commercial assets, before the state’s deadline. (Are you ready?)
