ULI Los Angeles: Virtual StimULI - From Urban Shopping Mall to Tech Campus: The Creative Office Conversion of Westside Pavilion
As big-box retail centers decline, developers are finding creative ways to repurpose large blocks of space to accommodate a new era. In 2018, a joint venture between Macerich and Hudson Pacific Properties announced plans to redevelop the declining Westside Pavilion into creative office space. The following year, tech giant Google pre-leased the entirety of the office space totaling nearly 600,000 square feet, further expanding their Los Angeles footprint.
This Zoom-panel presentation will explore the first-of-its-kind conversion of urban mall to creative office, providing insights on innovative adaptive reuse strategies. Additional topics will include the expansion of tech and media industries in Los Angeles and the resulting economic impact to the region.
