This Project Tour will offer an in-depth look at a landmark adaptive reuse development, a visionary undertaking that has been a decade in the making.

Originally constructed in 1926 and designed by Curlett & Beelman, Elks Lodge No. 99 is an 11-story Exotic Revival-style building considered one of Los Angeles' most significant historic landmarks. The building is currently undergoing a comprehensive structural rehabilitation and retrofit, transforming it into The MacArthur—a unique destination that will include a special event center, non-profit headquarters, filming location, and long-term stay hotel.

The program will explore key aspects of the preservation and adaptive reuse process, including the use of a Performance-Based Engineering (PBE) approach to comply with the City of Los Angeles’ Non-Ductile Concrete and Soft Story Retrofit Ordinance, as well as the strategic application of historic tax credits.
