Movers & Shakers with Stephen Cheung of World Trade Center Los Angeles
Join ULI Los Angeles to meet Stephen Cheung, President of World Trade Center Los Angeles.
The World Trade Center Los Angeles (WTCLA) is Los Angeles County’s leading promoter and facilitator of international trade and inbound foreign direct investment. WTCLA has led or assisted in the attraction of more than $1 billion of foreign investment into Los Angeles County. The WTCLA works in conjunction with the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation to support the development of international trade, investment and business opportunities for Southern California companies.
Stephen Cheung was appointed President of the WTCLA in May 2015. Prior to his current role, Stephen was the Secretary General for Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and was responsible for managing policies and programs related to the Port of Los Angeles, Los Angeles World Airports, International Affairs and Global Trade. Concurrently, he was the Director of International Trade for the Port of Los Angeles, the busiest container port in North America. Stephen also served on the Board of Director of the Los Angeles Regional Export Council and the Los Angeles Business Council, and was the lead organizer for Mayor Garcetti’s international trade missions to Mexico, China, Korea and Japan.
Stephen joined Mayor Garcetti’s office after serving as Managing Director of International Trade and Clean Technology for the City of Los Angeles. He was responsible for expanding the city’s role as a leader in international trade, entertainment, tourism, manufacturing and professional services. During this period, Stephen was the City’s lead organizer for the historic visit to Los Angeles by Chinese President, Xi Jinping in 2012.
Stephen was born in Hong Kong and grew up in Los Angeles. He obtained both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from UCLA.
We’ll be meeting at the Metropolis Sales Gallery high above downtown Los Angeles. As our host, Greenland USA has generously agreed to open the Metropolis Sales Gallery to Mr. Cheung, ULI and its guests. We’re excited to be meeting in this stunning space, and look forward to informally learning more about the Metropolis and other Greenland projects before our speaker begins his remarks.
We hope you will join ULI-LA on Thursday evening, January 28, to meet this dynamic leader in the Los Angeles economic community. Stephen Cheung will be our featured and sole guest. He will be sharing his thoughts on international business and capital opportunities, and then will be answering your questions.
