Movers and Shakers: Barbara Bestor
Barbara Bestor founded Bestor Architecture in Los Angeles in 1995. Since then, Bestor Architecture has designed numerous award-winning projects throughout Los Angeles, including headquarters for Beats by Dre and Nasty Gal; Blackbirds, a groundbreaking small lot model for dense housing in Echo Park; and a variety of experimental residences and commercial establishments. Bestor Architecture now employs approximately 25 full time staff, and recently moved into new corporate offices (designed by Bestor Architecture of course!), on Hyperion Avenue in Silverlake.
Bestor Architecture’s recent projects include Ashes & Diamonds, a new winery and event center in Napa recently featured in the New York Times; the new BODE hotel in Palm Springs an innovative approach to hospitality, combining the model of a rental/Airbnb villa with a destination hotel; and a three year rejuvenation and revitalization of John Lautner’s stunning Silvertop residence. In 2018, Silvertop was honored with a Preservation Award from The Los Angeles Conservancy, which recognizes achievement in the field of historic preservation. She is currently designing the new Community Center for Ikar.
Join us to hear about Barbara’s career, her groundbreaking and innovative projects, and her perspective on rethinking old typologies and what new 21st century typologies suits our contemporary city and daily life.
In addition, over the past summer, interns at Bestor Architecture studied urban corridors in the Los Angeles area such as San Fernando Road; ULI members and guests at this event can be among the first to hear what they learned.
ULI is excited to be holding this event in Bestor Architecture’s new office in Silverlake; don’t miss this opportunity to meet Barbara and peak behind the scenes at Bestor Architecture!
