Regional Spotlight: The Inland Empire Strikes Back
A joint program of ULI Los Angeles and ULI Orange County/Inland Empire
On March 7, residents of Los Angeles will be going to the polls to vote on a proposal designed to dramatically alter – and some say slow – the way their City develops. Meanwhile, in Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, the economy is once again cooking along, building spaces and creating jobs with no signs of disruption on the horizon. The Los Angeles and Orange County/Inland Empire Councils of ULI have developed a Regional Spotlight program designed to showcase recent activity across the busy Inland Empire.
In San Bernardino, 42 acres at the heart of downtown are in the beginning stages of redevelopment. In Ontario, QVC West just opened its one million square foot West Coast distribution center, where 1,000 people are expected to work once the new facility reaches capacity. In Moreno Valley, infrastructure agreements are now in place for the 40 million square foot World Logistics Center to proceed. And they just got back control of the Ontario Airport. In the Inland Empire, opportunity is not just knocking, it’s banging the door down.
Our panel of experts are taking time out of their hectic schedules to come to downtown Los Angeles and tell our guests what life is like on the other side.
- John Andrews – Director of Economic Development, City of Ontario
- Vaughan Davies – Principal and Director of Urban Design, AECOM
- Mike Lee – Director of Economic Development, City of Moreno Valley
- Mike Woo – Dean of College of Environmental Design, California State Polytechnic University in Pamona

The Ratkovich Company has graciously agreed to host this Regional Spotlight Event at The Bloc. ULI LA members have already seen THE BLOC, from planning to demolition to reconstruction, and know its dynamic role at the heart of the Downtown LA’s renaissance. Now THE BLOC is fully functional, and ready to show itself off.
