Homebuilders are retooling, rightsizing and hoarding cash as they weather the country’s prolonged housing slump. Irvine Company’s Bren Wins Urban Planning Award

The Urban Land Institute today honored Irvine Co. chairman Donald Bren with its Vanguard Award in recognition of his career in cutting-edge development of master planned communities. Bren, 79, had a major role in the development of two major planed communities: as a top manager at the Mission Viejo Co. that established what’s today Mission Viejo; and as owner of the Irvine Co. that planned the city of Irvine. Commercial Real Estate Players Expect Slow recovery in 2012
